Mountain Flax Tricolor
A big mountain flax with striking colouring, Phormium cookianum subsp hookeri Tricolor  is a large, evergreen perennial with long, narrow leaves, a wonderful structural plant for the larger garden, and particularly good by the sea. The long, sword-shaped  leaves are striped longitudinally in creamy-yellow and deep green with fine red edges. Tall spikes bearing panicles of yellowish flowers appear in summer. Mountain flax Tricolor is a really striking structural plant for year-round interest, and holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. Needs winter protection in colder parts of the country.
